A Chance After 12 Years For Ambati Rayadu

And that thing happen again that kicked me writing this blog post. Ambati Rayadu scored first century to win a game for India. It sounds really simple right? A batsman scored a century, playing in home conditions and batting on position 3. Yes, its quite normal for Indian cricket fan but one thing is different in this inning by Amabati. Actually It's a great story from Amabati's side. In 2003, he was under 19 captain of Indian team at the age of 19. And was also elected as captain for India A team. Reaching to India A team was first sign of getting a call to play for international. But that didn't happen for India A captain that time. I remember in 2002 and 2003 I used read news about cricket in news papers and magazines. That time he played played many sensational innings for Ranji, under 19, India A & List A teams. He became a player to look for in Indian team and test side too. But life plays cruel games with someone. He was then denied chances in international team due to quota system and many other players got chances over him. Also players like Dravid, Laxman, Sachin, Sehwag were playing in all formats that were existed. After 4 years of wait he lost his focus and dejected big time. I could not be able to found him in news. And one day I shocked to see his name in ICL (Indian Cricket League), which was rebel league formed by Kapil Dev. He became hero and highest run getter in that league. Later after ICL banned in India, he again got chance in IPL to play for Mumbai Indians team in 2001. He again made most of it and consistently started scoring 30-40 runs which impressed Sachin. Once Sachin said, "I wanted to see Amabati batting from non-striker end and that is why I just given strike to him to play his shots". That appreciation boosted his confidence and now became part of Indian teal last year after wait of 11 long years.

When he elected in Indian team after 11 years over Yuvraj Singh, Manoj Tiwari & other candidates everyone was shocked. That time he was just scoring 30s for Mumbai Indians. But now if you today look his record in 18 played innings he scored 583 runs including 4 half centuries and 1 century with average of 48. Even Rahane did not have average after coming in Indian team for 3 years.

I think Ambati's story is great example of self-belief, patience & dedication. To me his story teaches a lot about how we should not give up dream to reach to top most level. But for that we have to do sacrifices of typical assets which are luring us. Ambati may have done such sacrifices that only he knows. But this is paid out today after 13 years of first class cricket. Today, Ambati must be feeling top of the world. We all must learn from him and try to get such satisfaction in life at least once.
